Model a depreciation scenario
Enter an original purchase price, vehicle age, and assumed constant annual depreciation percentage. Decimal ages are supported for rough partial-year scenarios.
Formula
Estimated value equals original price multiplied by one minus the decimal depreciation rate, raised to the vehicle age. This is declining-balance depreciation.
Not an appraisal
Real vehicle prices do not follow one fixed rate. Model year, mileage, condition, history, location, specifications, demand, incentives, and economic conditions can dominate. Use current comparable-market information for consequential decisions.
Frequently asked questions
Does vehicle depreciation happen at a constant rate?
Usually not. This calculator deliberately uses one constant annual percentage as a simple scenario, while real depreciation varies by year and vehicle.
Is the result a market-value appraisal?
No. Mileage, condition, location, trim, history, demand, incentives, and market conditions are not included.
How is annual depreciation applied?
Each year's rate is applied to the remaining estimated value, not repeatedly to the original price.
Does this include loan balance or ownership costs?
No. Financing, maintenance, insurance, taxes, repairs, fuel, and transaction costs are separate.
